Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to capture some relevant hints concerning the description of the semi-fictional county of Wessex by the British writer Thomas Hardy, which is the main backdrop for most of the writer’s novels. While Wessex itself is based on the real geographical area of southwestern and southern England, Hardy’s use of it in his works is fictionalized, and he often gave fictional names to real places. Dorset is the capital in both the real and the semi-fictional county of Wessex.
