Summary/Abstract: Contemporary discussion on the separation of a new stratigraphic unit in geology, called anthropocene, which records geological changes of anthropogenic nature, is a context for a new conceptualization of basic categories describing and explaining the state of crisis of relationships between man and nature. The article attempted a retrospective reconstruction of the concept of nature in two dimensions: the experience of various aspects of nature in times of the ecological crisis and philosophical interpretations of this experience. The common element of this existential and scientific experience is the revision of ideas of nature shaped by science and technique. Two key aspects are discovered in the philosophical interpretation. Firstly, the concept of nature is shaped in a scientific and technical context in a historical (scientific revolution, subsequent stages of technology changes) and systematic dimension (the concept of science and technology affects the way of understanding nature). Secondly, the scientific and technical approach to nature has led to a number of important ideological and worldwiev consequences that affect the shape of the human– nature relationship.
