Summary/Abstract: The article presents the methodological approaches that are the basis for updating the geography curriculum of Lithuanian secondary schools/upper secondary (grades 11-12) and gymnasiums (grades III-IV). The aim is to answer the question: how to substantiate and systematically link the trends of geography science and development of didactics, based on the international and Lithuanian educational documents defining today’s geographical education? Lithuanian educational and international (charters, declarations) documents are analyzed, which define the modern trends of curriculum renewal and geographical education. The historical development and perspective of geography and its didactics (school geography) are compared. The scatter of areas of educational achievements and competences in individual levels of the comprehensive school is shown.
