Summary/Abstract: The goal of this paper is two-fold. First, the paper analyzes the narratological aspects of simultaneous narration in fiction. Then, it will demonstrate and dicuss the possible consequences of inadequate translation of simultaneous present on the literary values and socio-historical reaches of a novel. The analysis was conducted on the examples found in The Damned Yard and the randomly chosen English translation. The novel was selected for this analysis for two particular reasons. First, the extensive use of the Serbian present tense in this novel has been recognized as a valuable asset which is craftly employedto send powerful messages that are fundumental for the interpretation of the novel, but also for the social and historical reaches of the explored themes (Kazas 2011: 51, Солеша 2018: 94). On the other hand, in the selected English translation one can detect the systematic transposition of the simultaneous-present narration to the past-tense narration. The analysis will demonstrate that the consequences of this decision that the translator has consciously made are diverse and far-reaching, especially in terms of focalization, and then subsequently on both narratological and literary-stylistic level of the original literary text.
