Summary/Abstract: The following article is based upon my PhD thesis The Urban Marketplace as a Culture. Formation, Institutionalization and Power Relations Relative to Two Marketplaces and the Urban Space. Of central interest are «wild marketplaces», a phenomenon, I consider, is revealing the deep transformation resulting from the economic, social and political changes occurring at a global and national level. In the heart of the marketplace, through of the personal and professional experiences of my informants, the specific figure of women traders becomes visible. Either, she could be a retired lady or a young entrepreneur; one could note the considerable number of women working at the marketplace. It seems that the marketplace is the privileged site for professional realization for women.
