Summary/Abstract: Among recent publications, concerning little towns and villages of Silesia, the one that stands out of others is the monograph of Wleń microregion, edited by Prof. Jerzy Piekalski from Institute of Archaeology of University of Wrocław. It begins with analysis of natural resources of the area and continues with the discussion on the problems of historical boundaries of the Wleń district (Weichbild) and texts regarding the history of the castle Wleń as well as the results of archaeological research carried out there. Thanks to the use of modern methods, it was possible to identify and partially verify archaeological sites (settlements, defensive structures, gallows and mining remains) that were mostly not previously known. A very important part of the study is also the discussion on the origins of the town Wleń and its transformations, based on metrological analysis. It should be strongly agreed with Jerzy Piekalski’s summary, presented at the end of the publication, that – thanks to the research carried out – the authors managed to create the first study of this type in which the interdisciplinary source data base was confronted with analyzes possible thanks to the extensive GIS instrumentation, ALS measurements and other digital procedures.
