Summary/Abstract: Motives: On a rapidly developing and unpredictable market, it is the employees who are responsiblefor building their professional position and furthering their career. The career capital accumulatedduring professional life is the main tool that increases employees’ competitive advantage on the marketand determines their employability.Aim: The aim of this article was to identify the key factors that contribute to career capital on theexample of a selected professional group of laboratory diagnosticians. In addition, an attempt was madeto determine the impact of career capital on professional achievement and to identify the benefits ofinvesting in career development.Results: Career capital consists of professional and personal (individual, private) resources. Investmentin the development of career capital and the long-term process of accumulating its resources cangenerate numerous benefits for both the employee and the employer. Individual benefits can be bothtangible and intangible.
