Summary/Abstract: In this article we describe the changes in the quality of qualitative research resulting from the adaptation of research practices to the pandemic conditions at the successive stages of research process. The analysis is based on 32 in-depth interviews with researchers in social sciences and humanities. We discuss ‘routes to quality’ and ‘routes to non-quality’ in qualitative research during the pandemic crisis. The researchers were ambivalent about the impact of the pandemic conditions on the quality of their research. Cluster analysis showed that the strategies for ensuring the quality of qualitative research differed due to the attentiveness to quality changes at different phases of the research process. Two main strategies were distinguished: the pursuit of quality during the phase of research conduct and the holistic strategies focused on quality assurance in all phases of research. The results were interpreted in relation to the four approaches to quality in qualitative research, which can be distinguished on the basis of literature review.
