Summary/Abstract: In this article I discuss ethical issues related to the integrity, exploitation of informants, the protection of confidentiality, privacy and anonymity in the context of contract research. It seems to me that the analysis of these issues is important, both because of the growing significance of contract research and the fact that these issues have attracted little interest in the humanities and social sciences literature. I draw on my own experience of conducting qualitative research (mainly semi-structured interviews and observations) in five research projects carried out between 2012 and 2015. Due to the nature of these projects my analysis of ethical problems refers to selected codes of ethics both sociological and anthropological.
