Summary/Abstract: The name Brudzew can be found for the first time in the scriptures from the 1 st half of 13 th century. Local tradition connects the name with a serf called Brudz, who had lived there in the 11 th century. As a private town it used to belong to such renown noble houses as Jarand, Łaszcz, Radoliński, Mycielski, Kurnatowski. At the very beginning Brudzew area belonged to Łęczyca settlement site. The political penetration of the Polans tribe caused its incorporation to state of the Piast dynasty. In 14 th century as a result of the state administration reform it was included to Konin District, which itself was a part of Kalisz Province. During the time of 121 years of fragmentation between late 18 th and early 20 th centuries Brudzew changes hands. At first it belonged to Prussia as a part of Kalisz Department. In 1807 it belonged to the Warsaw Duchy and was included into Konin District, a part of Kalisz Province. In 1815, Brudzew became a part of Kingdom of Poland united with the Russian Empire with Russian tsar as its king. At that time it was located in Konin District, which at first was a part of Kalisz Province, next a part of Kalisz Governorate and finally Warsaw Governorate. In 1867, Brudzew was included to Koło District of Kalisz Governorate. After regaining independence, between 1918 and 1938, Brudzew was included to Koło District in Łódź Province. The subsequent administration reform located Brudzew in Turek District, a part of Poznań Province. It remained there until 1975 when it was included into newly established Konin Province (district level of administration was cancelled) Probably, since the late 14 th century, Brudzew has been granted a town charter. At present, Brudzew is a part of Turek District, a part of Wielkopolskie Province.
