The Archetype of the Wild Woman through the Film Narrative of the Horror Fairytale You Won’t be Alone by Goran Stolevski

Summary/Abstract: This paper dealt with the role of the media in the representation of tradition, specifically with the cultural paradigm of folklore in film. Through the archetype of the witch in the new Macedonian film You Won’t Be Alone by Goran Stolevski, we tried to elaborate the representation of the wild woman opposed to freedom, love, mother's primordial power, mythical female sexuality, masculinity and patriarchy. The horror drama You Won't Be Alonе by Stolevski is based on a fairy tale. Without pretension for a rigid genre determination, we could still categorize the film as part of the new art-folklore brand. This film of feeling and film of atmosphere is created through a supreme visual cycle, through a circle of metaphors by which we tried to decode the messages of the grid of tradition, the circle of evil, the burden of custom, the hegemony of the body, masculinity by pattern, the regional mythology in relation to the Other, the travesty and transformations of the human. Throughout a feminist discourse, we looked for the point where gendered readings of tradition and folklore converge in order to critically reflect on womanhood, femininity and motherhood.
