Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the gymnastic journalism shows a modest picture of knowledge about Greek agonistics. It can also be seen that Polish authors use antiquity rather casually in order to justify theses concerning their contemporary aims. As a result, the articles of some authors were not free from erroneous messages, which could have been avoided by using one of the popular books in Polish. Longer texts, presenting in-depth knowledge of Greek and Roman sport, were usually translations of texts by foreign researchers. At the same time, the gymnastic magazines do not contain any texts by scholars who taught ancient history at universities for Polish students.
