Summary/Abstract: In Turkey, the opportunity for associate degree graduates to complete their undergraduate studies without taking the university entrance exam again is possible with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). Successful associate degree (2 years above high school) graduates can complete their undergraduate education (4 years above high school) with the DGS exam, for example, they can become engineers while still being technicians. Vertical transfer processes can be carried out objectively with the central DGS exams introduced by ÖSYM in 2000. Another importance of DGS exams is that they increase the attractiveness of vocational schools as they offer associate degree program graduates the opportunity to complete a bachelor's degree, thus partially reducing the backlog in undergraduate programs.
