Summary/Abstract: This article is based on the theoretical studies of Ľudmila Liptáková on the subject ofdeveloping children’s reading comprehension. Our article focuses on the possibilities ofdeveloping reading comprehension of children’s literature for older children in the process of acquiring communication and literary competencies as well as complex literacy. These competences constitute the main goals of teaching Slovak Language and Literature (Liptáková and Cibáková, 2013, p. 6). We refer to theoretical concepts of the integrative cognitive-communicative and experiential conception of teaching literature (Liptáková et al., 2015) with emphasis on inference (Liptáková, 2022). We focus on ecological children’s literary texts and on the texts on identity and anti-war theme. The article aims to point out at feasibility of developing reading comprehension in children of an older reading age through stimulating their inferential thinking.
