Summary/Abstract: The case of Ulcinj is special in our national history because, due to the pressure of the Great Powers on the Ottoman Empire, this city with its immediate surroundings was handed over to the Montenegrins in November 1880.In the new social circumstances, out of dissatisfaction under the administration of Montenegro, about 1/3 of the Albanian population of Ulcinj emigrated, settling mainly in Shkodra and Durres, which affected the reduction of the Albanian population in this area.On the other hand, the new Montenegrin government had as its state goal the colonization of this area by the Slavic population, respectively Montenegrins, first in the city, and then in its surroundings. Related to this issue, there is an extensive documentation in the State Archives of Montenegro where the subject of treatment is Ulcinj from 1880 onwards, and which is of interest to researchers, scholars and the general public. The paper will present data on the population by settlements and their territorial distribution, according to the national population structure, which proves the colonization of this area by the Slavic (Montenegrin) population, which was the strategic goal of the Montenegrin government in this period of time.
