Prominent Bulgarian bibliographers and librarians in a new digital collection of the “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” National Library

Summary/Abstract: The origin of the library science in Bulgaria is reviewed. The contributions of the first 19th century professional librarians are mentioned and their importance for the creation of the library as a social institution is pointed out.Review of the origin, historical evolution and significance of Library Science reading room is presented. As of today Sector of Library Science is part of Special Collections Department of National Library. Contemporary digitization trends are noted. Short historical review of digitization at the National Library is given and its significance is discussed.Goals and assessment of digitization of special collection of prominent Bulgarian bibliographers and librarians project are discussed and the initially digitized titles and authors are listed.Significance of the digitization project is noted.
