Valuable editions with original bookplates in the funds of the Special Collections Department of the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an important part of graphic art and its historical development in different countries, as well as in our country. The history of the bookplate from the earliest records of the time of Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1400 BC) is briefly considered, as well as its appearance in Europe, first in Germany. A brief overview of the early stages of the history of the Bulgarian bookplate is made. Special attention is paid to some rare and valuable editions with original bookplates from the fund “Special Collections” of the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”. Elements of valuable editions from the fund with ex-libris of prominent Bulgarian historical figures are examined and illustrated in detail.
