Summary/Abstract: The article presents the problems that hinder the career development of women in the Bulgarian police. Presented are the results of analyzes of national and international acts, strategic documents, as well as direct monitoring of the practice of recruitment and career development of women in Bulgarian police in the period 1990 – 2018. The author claims that in spite of the existing provisions aimed at ensuring equal access to State service for women and men in Bulgarian police and a unified system of professional career development, there are police positions that are not suitable for women. It is proposed that the Minister of the Interior designate police positions that cannot be taken by women, depending on the activities where gender is an essential and defining professional requirement.
