Summary/Abstract: The security crisis in Europe, a consequence of the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, has contributed to an intensification of the discussion in American expert and political circles about the optimal strategy to be adopted by the United States in the face of the need to take on the rivalry with Russia and the People’s Republic of China. In the dialogue among US elites on this issue, three main currents have emerged, according to the author of this article, with different proposals for managing the rivalry with Moscow and Beijing: “hegemonic”, “strategic prioritisation” and neo-isolationism. The outcome of this debate is still undecided, but will determine the future of the US place in the international system.
