Summary/Abstract: What is the nature of a couple’s relationship? We often speak of ‘love’, but its definition remains very vague if we consider that there are multiple forms of love and that this feeling is present to varying extents within married life. A more precise analysis of the feelings and principles that make up the contemporary conjugal bond makes it possible to better understand how it is currently evolving. Various notions are studied in this article: solidarity, respect, trust, and mutual support. Mutual recognition is also discussed, and it is noted that it must be imposed on other social circles of recognition, which might compete with one another, including the circle of the closest ones, such as parents or friends. This leads to the emergence of a new role within a relationship; a kind of therapist of the soul, whose function is to restore the partner’s self-esteem, which has been undermined by the way society functions.
