Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to reorient literary studies focused on the Holocaust toward fieldhumanities. Starting from an analysis of the poetics of place proposed by Dorota JuliaNowak, the author seeks works in Polish studies that surpass philological analyses infavor of cultural studies, especially anthropological analyses. Among other works, thoseby Roma Sendyka and Aleksandra Ubertowska utilize posthumanist, geographical, and geological tools to propose a new vocabulary. Nowak’s work makes minimal useof methods from other disciplines, thus leaving unresolved many uncertainties aboutunderstanding the environment or the environment in Holocaust literature. The authorbelieves that what is key is the equality of literature and other sources of knowledge, which is to stem from her assumption that allows us also to appreciate the agencyof the environment. The article links the above to the metaphor of “terraforming” byAlbrecht and Pik.
