Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present paper is to look at means in which, under the form of a poem, an entire story, with different versions, can be suggested to the readers. Starting from the few striking details, which are carefully chosen in this poem, a story, starting from a common life situation, of being in a process of change psychologically, as well as socially and age-related, is suggested in the mind of the readers. Reader-response theories can allow the readers who are familiar with Graham Swift’s novels, with his specific devices and types of narrators, draw on their previous knowledge of his work and on their commonly shared background with the author to interpret and understand this poem.
