The Second Variant 1879 of the Pypin’s History of Bulgarian Literature

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the content of the second version of the section “Bulgaria”, created by A. N. Pypin in 1879 for the “History of Slavic Literatures”. It eliminated the chronological absence of the materials of Bulgarian literature history from the 12th to the 18th century, which took place in the first Pypin’s version, published in 1865 in the “Review of the History of Slavic Literatures”. The author of the article tells about the most striking pages of the updated Pypin’s section, which was the first systematic presentation in Slavic Studies of the history of Bulgarian literature from ancient times to 1877. The 2-volumes “History” by A. N. Pypin and V. D. Spasovich (the second author wrote for it a section on Polish literature) had a wide international resonance. After the publication of its second volume in 1881, the whole issue was translated into Check, French, German, as well as a corresponding extract from it about native literature in Serbia and Bulgaria.
