A NIMBY conflict as an impulse of developing social participation and a motive for change at the local political scene on the example of the Jemielno municipality in 2022

Summary/Abstract: The paper identifies the causes, participants, course and effects of the local NIMBY conflict in the rural municipality of Jemielno in 2022. The conflict emerged around the placing of a large industrial waste landfill. The author studies the attitudes of the main actors of the dispute, taking into consideration their participatory potential and their impact on the political crisis in the rural municipality. The analysis presents a picture of local community participation in democratic processes and building a civil society.
