Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the haiku poems written by contemporary Romanian authors in online communities, which are sent for publication to online anthologies, blogs, sites, and contests. These haiku poems are generally written in the English language, since it is a lingua franca for authors from all over the world that are not Japanese. Western culture members have taken up the practice of writing haiku poems. The Romanian authors are part of a large community communicating in the online environment. They are mainly gathered in the group formed by Corneliu Traian Atanasiu, a mentor of the Romanian Kukai group. The paper will focus on examples of haiku poems written by Romanian authors, in order to spot influences of Zen Buddhism, Taoism and Shintoism, which are part of the Japanese culture mindset. To what extent can the Romanian culture mindset come close to these and why?
