Summary/Abstract: Our approach aims to highlight another face of Romanian dramatist and prose writer I. L. Caragiale, usually considered as a typical Classical author. Exploring the nocturnal side of Caragiale’s prose, a modern writer emerges, endowed with a keen, but ruthless eye for the hidden, monstrous side of human nature. The night can be the ideal time for partying (even without any trace of joy), for the carnival atmosphere to set instincts free, for the fantastic to change the rules, for nightmares to reign or for tragedy to fully manifest through robbery, murder, revenge, incest.
