A CENTURY OF MIST BY MATEI VIȘNIEC – A NOVEL OF PREDICTION

Summary/Abstract: In the last novel written by Matei Vișniec, “A Century of Mist” (2021), history seems to repeat itself, and the dense mist immortalized by the author in the novel seems to be emerging again from the dark depths of the human minds in order to take control of the previously lost territories. The fog that engulfs life with all its mechanisms seizes the individual as well, enveloping the human being in an unexplainable cecity and causing his reason to become still. “A Century of Mist” is a novel about a world’s political and social evolution and involution, about the difference in perspectives between the East and the West, about the annihilation of communists and their comeback, about human resistance and alienation, about the HUMAN that was and will be. However, autobiographical details permeate the novel “A Century of Mist”, from a consciousness which did not allow itself to be blinded by the dense mist and which sets alarm bells ringing in order for young people to see what is to be seen.
