Summary/Abstract: Our approach is focused on presenting the connection between myth and story, myth projection into actuality as some sort of continuity of the vein of Romanian popular beliefs that are to be found out at the confluence of the civilizing peoples’ cultures. The connection between myth, image and archetype has proved to be an intrinsic and permanent one. Maurice Halbawchs considers collective memory as being made up of myth, image and archetype. Mythical structures are transformed into myth themes according to the context of community development. The modern nation, in Simona Nicoară’ vision, affirms itself by its myths and ethnic spiritual values and any society has been built on three coordinates: territory, heroes and a golden age. The collective mentality, which is heroes’ depositary and that of special facts that have passed time test and served the nationalist discourse, represents an important part of the national identity.
