Summary/Abstract: Alexandru Candiano Popescu had a brilliant military career, culminating in the occupation of the Grivita 2 redoubt on August 30, 1877. He attendant the Military School Officers in Bucharest, between 1854-1859. In 1859, he become lieutenant, being a close friend of Alexandru Ioan Cuza. He participates in the War of Independence with the rank of major. After the episode Grivita, received the rank of lieutenant colonel and was rewarded with the Order St George. After 1880, for twelve years, he was a royal aide. In 1882, he received the rank of colonel. In 1894, he obtained the rank of general, and in 1899 he came to commandant the third Army corps. He died on June 26, 1901, in his friend’s house, the colonel A. Vladoianu.
