Summary/Abstract: Alexandru Candiano Popescu is known in Romanian historiography after the movement in Ploiești in August 1870. He edited a number of newspapers during the period 1871 opposing the monarchy. He was arrested twice by the police. Movement with internal causes (political crisis and pro-French sentiment) and external causes (Franco-Prussian war). The revolution was to break out simultaneously in several important cities of the country. The "revolution" was being well organized only in Ploiești, where Alexandru Candiano Popescu took care of establishing the details.
