The university of the third age in the face of the needs of “patchwork-collage” old age

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to define the so-called “new” old age, which the author metaphorically calls “collage and patchwork” old age. In the context of these considerations, the role and importance of the University of the Third Age in meeting the needs of modern seniors were shown. These needs have been captured in a multidimensional way, through the prism of three dynamics distinguished by the author: search and cognition, transformation and transgression, and passing and loss. The reflections of the University of the Third Age students at the University of Silesia in Katowice included in the text, are an illustration of the considerations undertaken.
