Summary/Abstract: The paper explores the two novels by Boyka Assiova, “The Barren Widow” and “Born on Easter” from the angle of the historical theme. The story in them is plausible although it features many fictitious elements as well. In Razlog, her birthplace, people are tolerant of one another even though they are from different religious backgrounds. The role of the philanthropist Pierce O’Mahony who established an orphanage for the children orphaned during the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising in 1903 has been shown. The two main characters of the novels Vranitsa and Philip grew up there. The life of the two of them has been traced, to how they became good citizens. Written skilfully, B. Assiova’s novels fascinate contemporary readers.
