Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to analyse the theme of travelling from a thematic and a naratological point of view in Gabriela Melinescu’s short stories included in The Boots of Happiness. A very important writer at the time of her departure in Sweden (1975), devoted mainly as a poet, but having published a novel, Bobinocarii, Gabriela Melinescu will continue to write poetry and prose, and a diary – now at its fifth volume -, written, according to the author, from the desire not to forget her mother tongue. The exile - until 1989, then the choice to remain in Sweden (after 15 years and especially after hard work of integration) will cause major changes in writing, as the Romanian literary criticism noticed. In the process of creation, the context / the social conditions, the cultural background or the biographical work are re-presented as creatively transformed. The events that have marked her "broken" destiny are metaphorically transposed in her novels; such moments as the birth of the unwanted child, his temporary blindness and reaction to light, her love for Nichita Stănescu and for René Coeckelbergs, her husband, her father’s suicide, the death of her mother and then of her husband, the experience of exile become "obsessive metaphors" in the work of Gabriela Melinescu.
