Summary/Abstract: This article provides a brief overview of the interface between law and humor. It offers a theoretical framework regarding the classical approaches to the phenomenon of humor and the different categories that fall under this generic term, illustrating a few of the situations and relations within the courts of law where humorous situations may arise, despite the fact that these two concepts may seem incompatible with each other. Researchers show that judges may be the either the subject or the target of humor; they may have to decide on the appropriateness of using humor and determine its effect(s) and they may also create and use humor themselves.
