Summary/Abstract: The novel „Thalassa” by Al. Macedonski shocks with the narrative technique emptied of epic and narrative thread. This feature makes it unique in Romanian literature at that time, so it seems a failed experiment, with no chance of success, but it is only the beginning for the "lyrical" novel with rich artistic phrases. Dreams are for Thalassa the means of attaining the ideal, the means of overcoming the condition, a mirage of which he is seduced. The dream becomes the second reality, a compensatory space, which materializes making it possible to restore the ancestral couple, the androgyne, by uniting the feminine principle with the masculine principle. With the help of the dream, the young man restores the lost realm of Paradise. Adrian Marino considers that for Macedonski the dream is an unconscious, fantastic means of withdrawing from lucidity.
