The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation” (Ephesians 1, 17). A Neptic Perspective

Summary/Abstract: The article questions the meaning of the Pauline expression „the spirit of wisdom and revelation” in Ephesians 1, 17. After discussing some relevant exegetical commentaries from modern biblical literature and underlining their proposed hermeneutic solutions, the article moves the attention towards a selection of texts belonging to the neptic or philocalic tradition of the Fathers. These two „battle fronts” of study intersect in a powerful dispute that can be summed up by a corrective appeal to the Chalcedonian problem or to the Palamite theology of the distinction between created and uncreated.
