Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the situation of women in management positions of public organizations, in the light of the European Commission's priority to promote equal participation of women and men in decisionmaking processes. In order to diagnose the existing situation in Romania, we investigated the presence of women in the Romanian Parliament, Government and local public administration (town halls, local councils and county councils) following general and local elections in 2008. The results reveal a low participation of women in decision making at both central and local level. This situation can be considered serious in the light of current European regulations requiring an equal representation in decision making.
