Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with how to regulate relationship between state and religion in the EU countries, especially in three of its members: Great Britain, Germany and Sweden. It is dealt with the three dominant models: a) the contract, b) the state religion and c) separation, and the three principles, a) the protection of individual rights and religious freedom, b) lack of jurisdiction of the state in religious affairs and independence of religious beliefs, and c) selective cooperation between state and religious communities. This paper is pointing out specific ways of the principle of religious freedom application and the realization of religious rights in the three countries, such as the rights to free days at school or at work during religious holidays, protection against religious discrimination, etc.
