Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes Tertullian’s exegesis of St. Paul’s texts where the term of hagias-mos was applied, and which was translated into Latin by such nouns as: sanctificato sanctimonia, and sanctificium. The conception of sanctification is expressed by using such terms as: (1) adjectives: sacer, sanctus e purus, casus, (2) nouns: sanctitas, sacrifi-cium, sanctificator, purificatio, castitas, castimonia, pudicitia, abstinentia, (3) verbs: sanctificare, purificare, sancire, castificare, abstinere, and (4) adverb: sancta. The sanc-tification of Christians is understood by Tertullian both as a process and as its result, and is associated with God’s Holiness and His trinitary character. The sanctification of man assumes that his conversion does not include only asceticism, but all aspects of human life as well.
