Summary/Abstract: The text contains considerations anchored in the context of critical pedagogy and social pedagogy on the emancipatory dimension of the slow but clear social change observed in recent decades in the field of practices related to the surname of women after getting married. We present difficult to obtain, official statistical data, pointing to a social change of an emancipatory nature. It seems interesting that women who follow the traditional path of formalizing their relationships, at the same time increasingly strive to keep the surname of origin (which is most often the surname of their father) or combine both identities using a double surname. The aim of the article is to present a tool for self-assessment: the Declarative Emancipation Scale (DSE), which was tested on a preliminary sample in terms of accuracy and reliability. The tool will be continuedly tested on a larger population.
