Summary/Abstract: The current study and the results of which are presented in it, are inspired by the concept of horizontal and vertical personalities in society, which are introduced by Andrew Solomon in 2018. The topic of horizontal personalities in the face of people with disabilities is extremely relevant, especially when we are talking about their families, and the newly introduced terminology provokes interest in our understanding of people with special needs. In the context of people with disabilities, pedagogical research spends a lot of time and resources on options for disability compensation, introduction of new methodologies for pedagogical activity, discussion of topics related to inclusive education, but this is not the same quality of information when it comes to the way of life of families raising a person with a disability. The study presents the results of parents of “horizontal” individuals, their views on the harm to their child / children, the choices they are often faced with and the decisions they would make if someone asked them if they wanted this life. The theoretical part of the study examines theories related to the attitude of religion to disability, research conducted by archaeologists who prove the attitude to disability in the XIV–XVIII centuries, as well as modern concepts of disability as a prerequisite for social isolation.
