Summary/Abstract: The problem of visual perception of oral speech (its registering) is of significant importance to hearing and speech rehabilitation. The visual perception of other people’s speech by children with hearing disorders in combination with other means – the use of the remaining hearing and the help of hearing aids, gestures, etc., largely improves oral communication. Complicated in its essence, the problem of recoding the acoustic code into an optical one and the visual perception of speech continues to be a pressing issue and to draw the attention of scientists from various fields. The aim of this article is not only to summarize the achievements in this sphere, but also to direct the focus of attention to the formation, development and use of skills for visual perception of speech in the context of communicative competence and communicative behaviour.
