Summary/Abstract: In this paper we aim to analyze the activities through which school librarians / documentary teachers promote reading among children and young people. The paper presents in the first part both the state and regional policies as well as the activities and projects that are organized in several European countries such as Croatia, Poland, Portugal, Spain, France. In the second part of the paper are presented the directions in which the school librarian and the documentary teacher from Romania should orient themselves in order to create for the young people the taste for reading and for organizing cultural animations. Unfortunately, the few examples presented are just one-off events with no noticeable effects. Teachers, school librarians and documentary teachers in Romania in collaboration with public libraries, publishing houses or cultural associations have the task to act beside the authorities for a unitary strategy for literacy and the cultivation of reading.
