Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse, comparatively, means through which suspension of disbelief is realized in Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando: A Biography and in Graham Swift’s novel Here We Are. These means include a credible mixture of real-life elements and fantastic elements connected figuratively to real life, such as daydreaming and fantasizing about living forever, changing identities, disappearing for good from among the people that hurt you and finding comfort in magic and day-dreaming. Authenticity is also an important element. Both authors express theoretical opinions on the issues of fantasy and reality in their autobiographical writings.
