Summary/Abstract: In the symbolic layers of Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu's prose there are mysterious universes formed around the relationship between Eros and Thanatos. Applying the postulates of Freudian metapsychology, we discern infinite springs of the human being ready to be explored. The search is the quintessence of Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu's prose. Just as the mythological heroes were in a permanent adventure of searching, so the prose analyst searched in the depths of her being for this relationship between Life and Death, bringing the Ugly to the surface.
