Summary/Abstract: The aim of this research is to investigate the 7th-grade students’ attitudes and motivations towards social studies courses regarding several variables. The population of the study consisted of seventh-grade students during the 2019-2020 academic year. The students study in the central secondary schools of Nizip, the district of Gaziantep. The sample of the study is composed of 980 seventh-grade students who study in 14 secondary schools in the research group, which was determined by using the maximum diversity sampling method. The data used in this study was obtained by using Social Studies Attitude Scale and Social Studies Motivation Scale. t-test, Mann Whitney-U test, one-way variance and Kruskal Wallis-H test were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study, there was a significant difference in the motivations of students towards social studies depending on the variables of gender, whereas there is no difference in their attitudes towards the course.
