Summary/Abstract: Romania's development in the modern age was based on the takeover of the political and economic structures of Western Europe. After the Second World War, due to the pressures exerted by the Soviet Union, Romania was forced to adopt a totalitarian communist model of Stalinist inspiration. This represented a dramatic rupture in the general course of the country's evolution.
