Summary/Abstract: The right to property in terms of Article 1 of the First Protocol is characterised somehow by openness arising from an autonomous understanding of the subject of protection. The absence of rigid rules makes it possible to add new property rights and interests to the already developed catalogue if three basic premises are met. The right or interest in question must actually exist or there must be a legitimate expectation of acquiring it, it must have its economic value and it must confer on a specific person the exclusive right to use the property.
