Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to look at the use of associations in the novel used on a variety of occasions. The novel uses the usual way the memory works by associations, but it also lends various associations to certain keywords, such as magic, parrot, the phrase Here we are and the silence used as a refrain, as well as keywords that the reader associates with moments from other novels by Graham Swift.
