Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze haiku poems as an invitation to dialogue, with a focus on the Romanian kukai online haiku community led by master Corneliu Traian Atanasiu. From the perspective of theories such as reader-response, intertextuality, cultural contact, and dialogism, we can see how the haiku poem fits in with the context of today’s world, which is based on digital culture and on the interactivity it promotes. The creation of such communities and the specificity of the haiku poem as interactive comes up as a counter-reaction or as a compensation against the isolation of the contemporary world, which is individualistic and urbanized. We could conclude that the haiku poem’s mechanism is an invitation to dialogue, and that it is so popular due to the current needs we have in today’s world, of interaction and communication.
